Take the Biscuit Challenge

Meallmore’s homes have been battling it out to see who can lay claim to the title of Star Baker in our Take the Biscuit competition. Featuring four different categories, including prizes for the best decorated biscuit, best overall biscuit and best biscuit theme, it was all to bake for! Open to all our homes, it was fantastic to see teams made up of both staff and residents, with everyone getting involved.

Many had fantastic recipes and no shortage of baking experience, which made for an exceptional standard of competition. Voting took place via polls on the Meallmore Facebook page with over 1300 votes being cast. It was amazing to see so much support being generated by the homes and we even had local press call out for people in local areas to join in the voting.

The competition was inspired by the World's Biggest Coffee Morning from Macmillan Cancer Support, which raises funds for a charity close to the hearts of many at Meallmore. The company has presented a cheque for £1,000 to Macmillan Cancer Support.

A huge congratulations to all the winners which are as follows:

Top of the tin, best overall biscuit – Mearns House, Superhero Delight biscuit

Crumbs all over, best resident decorated biscuit – Mearns House, Hot Air Balloon biscuit

Oh crumbs, best theme for biscuits chosen by residents – Mearns House, Marvel Theme

The cookie monster, biscuit with the most calories – Ivybank House, Jaffa Royale biscuit

The winners were announced by Gerry Hennessey who put together a lovely video announcing the winners of each category. Each winner was awarded a fantastic biscuit hamper prize from our catering suppliers, Bidfood, which we’re sure will go down an absolute treat.

We’re already getting excited for our next baking challenge which will feature a special festive theme and promises to produce some grand designs! We can’t wait to see what all the different homes have in store for us. Well done again to all the participants and winners for creating such a high standard of competition.
