Bayview couple celebrate 65th Valentine’s Day together

Love is in the air at our Bayview care home in Cruden Bay as our resident love birds, Gordon (90) and Peggy (88) Turvey spend their 65th Valentine’s Day together.

The couple are inseparable and always spend time together in their rooms enjoying each other’s company. Gordon won’t go to bed without giving Peggy a kiss goodnight!

The pair have lived in Ellon for 30 years after making the move from England for their retirement. Throughout their marriage Gordon and Peggy always loved holidays in Scotland, and it was these fond memories of the country which helped them settle on a retirement place.

Their love story began in England in the 1950s when Peggy, a nurse, required assistance after a puncture cycling to work at the West Suffolk Hospital. Residing in the lodgings next door, Gordon came to the rescue. Peggy found Gordon ‘very useful’ in mending her bike. The couple immediately hit it off – and the rest is history.

The pair were married on 16 March 1957 in Great Cornard in Sudbury, Suffolk and have been inseparable ever since. Peggy was a nurse for 40 years and Gordon was refrigerator engineer manager when he was not playing hockey.

Gordon and Peggy have two daughters together, Sue and Kim. They also love being grandparents and great-grandparents to their two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The pair have been sharing their top tips to a successful and doting marriage. Gordon says the secret to a happy marriage is to always do as he is told!

The couple are still very much in love after all the years together, and Gordon’s dedication was proven when Peggy moved in to Bayview Care Home just before Christmas last year after being unwell. Due to missing Peggy, Gordon initially moved in to spend the Christmas period with his wife, however he soon decided not to leave and quickly made Bayview his permanent home. Home is truly where the heart is.

Bayview in Cruden Bay are lucky to have three married couples currently living there. For Valentine’s Day, our staff have a special Valentine’s Day lunch and dance to celebrate. An afternoon tea is being prepared by the wonderful kitchen team for all residents which will feature a spread of Valentine’s treats.

They’ve even arranged for flowers to be delivered to the care home for the husbands to give to their wives.

To all of our couples at Meallmore, we wish you a Happy Valentine’s Day.
