Work Begins on New Langcraigs Care Home

Work is starting on the development of a new £4m care home in Langcraigs, Dumbarton.

The new home, located at Gooseholm Road, is being developed by Meallmore Ltd, which runs 23 care homes across Scotland.

Following a planning application submitted to West Dunbartonshire Council, plans to refurbish the former Langcraigs Residential Care Home have been updated. The existing building will now be demolished and replaced with a purpose-built, single storey building.  The overall plans to develop a 32 bedroom care home remain unchanged.

Preparatory work is currently underway at the site, which will be followed by up to six weeks of demolition work to allow for the main construction to commence. The demolition is being carried out by David Morton Ltd.

Michael Gillespie, property director for Meallmore, said: “We’re pleased to be starting work on site with plans for a new state of the art care home in Langcraigs. We will be updating neighbours and community representatives about the construction work and timescales throughout the development process.”

Once complete the new care home is expected to create 37 full-time equivalent jobs, help relieve pressure on hospital services and reduce bed-blocking and support West Dunbartonshire Council in addressing the demand for services in the local area.

It will be similar to Meallmore’s care homes The Oaks, in Baillieston and the Hilton Court in Rosyth.
