From Housekeeper to Head of Hospitality: Tia’s Journey at Meallmore

At Meallmore, we believe every colleague deserves the chance to learn, grow and thrive. That’s why we’re proud to shine a spotlight on Tia David, our first graduate of the Meallmore Hospitality Academy - a pioneering programme designed to create a clear, dedicated career pathway for our hospitality teams in care.

Tia’s story is one of hard work, opportunity and achievement.

A Journey of Growth

Tia joined Meallmore in August 2021 as a housekeeper at Willow Lodge Care Home in Falkirk, a specialist service supporting adults with complex needs. Her dedication, attention to detail and natural warmth soon stood out. Within a short time, she was promoted to Head of Hospitality - a role she has embraced with energy and pride.

Now, just a few years later, Tia has become the first-ever graduate of the Hospitality Academy, completing a programme that recognises the crucial contribution of hospitality colleagues across our homes.

The Hospitality Academy

Launched to give structure and opportunity to colleagues working in catering, housekeeping and hospitality roles, the Hospitality Academy is the first of its kind at Meallmore.

It offers a series of modules covering everything from:

  • Sustainability and environmental practices
  • Stress management and wellbeing
  • Stock control and operational excellence

This mix of practical skills and personal development equips colleagues to take on leadership roles, strengthen their confidence, and make a positive impact in their homes every day.

Tia received her certificate of completion from hospitality facilitator Gordon Nunn and Willow Lodge manager Tam McNamara - a proud milestone for her, her team and the wider Meallmore community.

The Academy is not just about education. It’s about outcomes that residents, colleagues and families can feel:

  • Residents enjoy meals and spaces shaped by high standards of hospitality, sustainability and care.
  • Colleagues benefit from supportive leaders who understand their journey and encourage growth.
  • Families can be reassured that every detail, from a homely dining room to a nutritious meal, is delivered with professionalism and pride.

By investing in learning and development, we are ensuring hospitality is not seen as “behind the scenes” but as a vital part of excellent care.

Tia’s Achievement

As the first graduate, Tia is a trailblazer. She has shown how determination, learning and support can create opportunity and progression. From her first role in housekeeping to leading the hospitality team at Willow Lodge, she has consistently shown kindness, accountability and leadership - bringing Meallmore’s C.A.R.E. values to life.

Her colleagues describe her as approachable, hardworking and inspiring. Residents and families see the impact in the comfort of their environment, the warmth of their meals and the thoughtful details that make Willow Lodge feel like home.

A Platform for the Future

Tia’s story is just the beginning. With the Hospitality Academy now established, more colleagues across Meallmore will have the opportunity to follow this pathway - gaining skills, recognition and the chance to grow their careers.

For Meallmore, this means a stronger, more motivated workforce. For residents, it means daily life enriched by colleagues who are proud of their roles and equipped with the skills to excel.

Leading the Way

Our vision is clear: to be Scotland’s most trusted care provider, delivering excellent care in great places to live and work. The Hospitality Academy is another step in making that vision real - ensuring every colleague, whatever their role, has the chance to shine.

Tia’s achievement is proof of what is possible. From starting as a housekeeper in 2021 to becoming the first Hospitality Academy graduate and Head of Hospitality at Willow Lodge, her journey shows that with opportunity and support, careers can flourish in care.

We are incredibly proud of Tia and excited to see many more colleagues follow in her footsteps.
