Meallmore staff and residents unite to walk 1,000 miles, promoting health, community spirit, and raising funds for Cancer Research UK.
In a heartwarming display of unity and purpose, Meallmore's care homes, head office, and remote support teams have embarked on the "I Would Walk 1,000 Meallmore Miles" challenge, the rough distance it takes to walk between all of our Meallmore Care Homes. This initiative aims to collectively walk 1,000 miles, fostering community spirit, promoting physical and mental wellbeing, and raising vital funds for Cancer Research UK.
The challenge kicks off on 16th June 2025 until 23rd June 2025 and coincides with Care Home Open Week, a national event that encourages care homes to open their doors to the public, showcasing the exceptional care and vibrant communities within. By aligning the walking challenge with this week, Meallmore highlights its commitment to transparency, community engagement, and the holistic wellbeing of its residents and colleagues.
Walking is a simple yet effective way to enhance physical health, reduce stress, and improve mental clarity. For residents, participating in the challenge offers a sense of purpose and achievement, while our colleagues benefit from the camaraderie and physical activity. Engaging in regular walks can lead to:
By incorporating walking into daily routines, Meallmore is fostering an environment where health and happiness go hand in hand. But it doesn't stop there, we're not just walking 1000 miles we're encouraging our teams to run, wheel, kayak and everything else in between to help edge us closer to our goal.
To keep the momentum going, Meallmore has introduced a series of fun awards and activities:
These light-hearted competitions not only add excitement but also strengthen bonds among participants, reinforcing the sense of community that Meallmore prides itself on.
All funds raised through this challenge will be donated to Cancer Research UK, with all funds going to causes here in Scotland. Cancer Research UK is a charity dedicated to pioneering research and improving cancer treatments. Cancer affects countless lives, and by contributing to this cause, Meallmore stands in solidarity with those impacted, reaffirming its commitment to care and compassion beyond its walls.
During Care Home Open Week, Meallmore homes will host various events, inviting families, friends, and local communities to join in the celebrations and learn more about the exceptional care provided. These events offer a glimpse into the daily lives of residents and the dedicated colleagues who support them, fostering transparency and trust.
By integrating the walking challenge into these events, Meallmore showcases its holistic approach to care, emphasising physical activity, mental wellbeing, and community engagement.
