Meallmore’s Christmas Gift to Alzheimer Scotland

Mearns House Care Home in Newton Mearns - Cheque Presentation for Alzheimer Scotland

This holiday season, Meallmore brought joy and generosity to the forefront by supporting Alzheimer Scotland as part of our annual Christmas Charity initiative. This year, over 500 colleagues across our 26 care homes voted for Alzheimer Scotland to receive a £3,000 donation, recognising the vital work they do for those living with dementia and their families here in Scotland.

Celebrating Community and Generosity at Mearns House

The donation was presented during a festive event at Mearns House Care Home in Newton Mearns, where residents, colleagues, and families gathered to celebrate. The occasion featured drinks, nibbles, and live entertainment by saxophonist Konrad Wiszniewski from the Scottish Jazz Collective, creating a heartwarming atmosphere of connection and joy.

The event at Mearns House also highlighted the incredible year-long fundraising efforts by the care home. Residents and colleagues raised over £1,000 for Alzheimer Scotland, as well as other charities, through activities like:

  • A 31-mile walk in October.
  • A cheese and wine evening.
  • Live music events.
  • A Christmas card sale featuring cards created by residents.

Their dedication embodies Meallmore’s commitment to fostering a sense of community and purpose within our homes.

A Charity Close to Our Hearts

With around 90,000 people living with dementia in Scotland, many of whom reside in care homes, Alzheimer Scotland’s mission to ensure no one faces dementia alone resonates deeply with Meallmore. Speaking on behalf of the company, Cillian Hennessey, CEO of Meallmore, shared:

“Alzheimer Scotland is a charity that is very close to the hearts of all of us at Meallmore. We see the brilliant work they do every day, and I’m thrilled we could offer them extra support this Christmas.
“I’d also like to congratulate the residents and colleagues at Mearns House for their fantastic fundraising efforts. They’re a shining example of community spirit and leadership.”

Acknowledging the Partnership

Representing Alzheimer Scotland, Kirsty Stewart, Executive Lead of Fundraising & Engagement, expressed gratitude:

“We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone at Meallmore for choosing Alzheimer Scotland as their Christmas charity this year, and special thanks to all at Mearns House for their fabulous fundraising efforts throughout the year.
“Every pound raised helps us continue with our work to ensure no one faces dementia alone.”
