We’re delighted to share that our newest home, Kelvinside Manor in Glasgow’s West End, has been shortlisted for the Care Home Design of the Year award at the 2025 Leaders in Care Awards.
This recognition is a huge moment for everyone involved in the creation of Kelvinside Manor, a home where every detail, every corner, and every choice has been guided by our commitment to delivering care with dignity, purpose and heart.
To be recognised nationally, so soon after opening our doors, is not just an achievement for the design itself, it’s a testament to how that design is already making a real difference to the lives of our residents, families and colleagues.
Kelvinside Manor opened in early 2025 with one vision: to create a luxurious, welcoming care environment that balances modern innovation with true homeliness. The result is a purpose-built, 48-bed home offering exceptional dementia, nursing and respite care in one of Glasgow’s most sought-after neighbourhoods.
But this isn’t about ticking design boxes. It’s about creating spaces that feel good to be in.
From the hair salon to the café-style social area, every element has been designed to encourage connection, independence and joy. Private en-suite bedrooms offer comfort and dignity, while communal areas are bright, accessible and sociable, striking a perfect balance between privacy and community.
It’s this careful balance - combining luxury with purpose - that caught the attention of the Leaders in Care Awards judges.
This nomination reflects what we already hear from residents and families: that Kelvinside Manor feels like a place to live well, not simply to receive care. Whether it’s enjoying a cappuccino with a loved one in the lounge, relaxing in the peaceful garden, or joining in one of the many daily activities, the design encourages independence, confidence, community and comfort.
Importantly, it also supports dementia-friendly design principles, with calming colour palettes, natural light, and intuitive layouts that help residents feel secure and at ease.
While the bricks, fittings and finishes matter, what truly makes Kelvinside Manor stand out is the teamwork and care poured into its creation.
From the early architectural stages through to welcoming our first residents, it’s been a team effort, involving Meallmore colleagues, contractors, designers, and families. The heart and soul that has gone into this project is what sets it apart.
As our Home Manager, Veronica Dormer, shared:
“This home was designed for people - not just in function, but in feeling. Everything here reflects the care and thought that’s gone into making Kelvinside Manor a place our residents are proud to call home. We’re so honoured by this nomination and incredibly proud of the journey so far.”
This shortlisting also reflects our wider vision at Meallmore, to be Scotland’s most trusted care provider, delivering excellent care in great places to live and work. Kelvinside Manor is a living example of that promise.
Our C.A.R.E. values; Creating welcoming environments, Acting with accountability, Recognising colleagues and residents, and Engaging in continuous improvement, are built into every beam and hallway.
The winners will be announced at the Leaders in Care Awards ceremony in October, and we’ll be cheering proudly alongside the very best in the UK care sector.
But whether we take home the trophy or not, the real prize is already here, in the stories being created every day at Kelvinside Manor. In the laughter from the garden, the warm conversations in the café, and the comfort residents feel when they walk through the front door.
This is more than great design, it’s great care, made visible.
