Kelvinside Manor Welcomes MSP Pam Duncan-Glancy for Community Conversation

At Meallmore, we believe that care homes are not simply places to live - they are thriving communities, deeply connected to the world around them. That vision came to life recently at Kelvinside Manor Care Home in Glasgow’s West End, as we welcomed local Labour MSP Pam Duncan-Glancy for a visit filled with meaningful conversations and shared purpose.

Pam Duncan-Glancy, who serves as Scottish Labour MSP for Glasgow, is a prominent advocate for social justice and equality. As Scotland’s first permanent wheelchair user elected to the Scottish Parliament, she brings lived experience and passionate commitment to improving services and accessibility across all sectors, including health and social care.

A Hub of Community in the West End

Kelvinside Manor, situated on Dorchester Avenue, provides not only high-quality, person-centred care for our residents but also serves as a vibrant hub within the community. Strong local connections are essential to ensuring our residents remain active, informed, and engaged in the world beyond our doors.

Welcoming local politicians, community groups, schools, and other partners helps us foster these connections and ensures that the voices of those in our care are heard and valued. Visits like Pam Duncan-Glancy’s are an essential part of this mission, creating opportunities for dialogue and collaboration.

Conversations That Matter

During her visit, Pam Duncan-Glancy spent time touring our beautiful home, chatting with residents and colleagues, and learning more about life at Kelvinside Manor. Together, we discussed recent developments in the care sector, the importance of partnership working, and the challenges and opportunities facing our teams and residents.

We were able to share insights into the innovative approaches we’re taking at Kelvinside Manor - from our focus on personalised care plans to the design of our modern facilities that ensure accessibility and comfort for all.

But above all, the visit was a chance to talk about the power of community. Whether it’s engaging with local schools, hosting community events, or supporting our residents in maintaining their interests and friendships, Kelvinside Manor stands as a community within a community.

A Home Filled with Life and Connection

Our Home Manager at Kelvinside Manor, Veronica Dormer, shared:

“It was terrific to welcome Pam Duncan-Glancy to Kelvinside Manor. Her commitment to social justice and improving lives resonates so strongly with us here. We’re passionate about creating a home that’s not only beautiful and comfortable but also fully connected to the wider Glasgow community. Visits like this help keep those connections alive and ensure that we’re always part of the bigger picture.
“Our residents have fascinating stories and experiences, and it means so much for them to feel involved and heard. We’re incredibly proud of the relationships we’re building with local partners, families and community leaders - and we look forward to more opportunities like this in future.”

Living Our Values Every Day

Kelvinside Manor embodies Meallmore’s vision of creating great places to live and work. Our C.A.R.E. values - Creating welcoming environments, Acting with accountability, Recognising colleagues and residents, and Engaging in continuous improvement - guide us in making sure our homes remain open, vibrant places of community and connection.

Pam Duncan-Glancy’s visit was a reminder that care is not delivered in isolation - it’s rooted in relationships, collaboration, and the shared goal of improving lives. We’re grateful for her time and insights and for the ongoing partnerships that help us continue to grow as a community hub in Glasgow’s West End.
