HealthInvestor Power List 2025: Leading Care Homes in Scotland

Meallmore’s Chief Executive Officer, Cillian Hennessey, has been recognised among the UK’s top care leaders with his inclusion in the HealthInvestor Power List 2025. This prestigious list celebrates the most effective, inspiring and influential figures across the country’s health and social care sector. Cillian’s nomination in the “Elderly Care” category highlights not only his personal achievements but also Meallmore’s growing reputation as one of Scotland’s most trusted care home groups.

The good work of Meallmore’s dedicated colleagues, who deliver high-quality, compassionate care every day, is central to this recognition. Cillian's recognition marks a proud moment for the Scottish care home industry, reinforcing the idea that providers in Scotland are making a meaningful impact across the UK. It’s a powerful endorsement of the care, innovation, and community focus that Meallmore continues to deliver through its growing portfolio of homes. Cillian’s passion for care and commitment to the community are evident in every aspect of Meallmore’s mission.

What is the HealthInvestor Power List?

The HealthInvestor Power List is an annual celebration of excellence in UK healthcare leadership. Organised by HealthInvestor UK, the programme recognises the people shaping the future of health and social care through investment, innovation, and service quality. Each year’s finalists are selected by an independent panel of judges and invited to an exclusive ceremony - this year’s event takes place on 3 December 2025 at the London Marriott Grosvenor Square.

Being named on the list is a prestigious endorsement and indicates that a leader’s contributions are having a tangible and positive impact across the industry. For Meallmore, Cillian Hennessey’s inclusion is a moment to celebrate and a signal that the company’s work is being recognised well beyond Scotland.

From Family Business to National Recognition

Cillian Hennessey’s career in care began within the family business, which was founded in 1987 by his father and uncle. Starting with one home in Inverness, Meallmore grew steadily, earning a reputation for quality care and community values. Cillian joined the organisation in 2010, rising through the ranks to become Commercial Director by 2017. In 2023, he was appointed CEO, succeeding his uncle, Gerry Hennessey, marking a new chapter in the business’s legacy.

From the outset, Cillian has made it clear that continuity and innovation would go hand in hand. Meallmore’s values, to create, act, recognise and engage, would remain central to its mission, but with a fresh vision to lead Meallmore into the future. His focus on high standards, person-centred care, and innovative growth strategies has not only protected Meallmore’s legacy but also enhanced it. Meallmore now operates a significant number of care homes across Scotland, demonstrating our scale and credibility as a leading provider of personalised care in Scotland.

Cillian had this to say about his inclusion on the Power List:

“Being included in the HealthInvestor Power List 2025 is a proud moment - not just for me personally, but for everyone across Meallmore. This recognition reflects the dedication, passion and professionalism of our teams who, day in and day out, go above and beyond to provide outstanding care to our residents.
Our vision has always been simple: to provide excellent care in great places to live and work. That means creating environments where people feel truly at home, where care is personalised, and where colleagues are supported to grow and thrive in their roles.
As we continue to expand our services across Scotland - from Glasgow and Aberdeen to Broughty Ferry and beyond - we remain focused on what matters most: investing in our people, supporting local communities, and delivering care that genuinely enhances lives.
I’m incredibly proud of how far we’ve come and even more excited about what lies ahead as we continue building a future for social care that’s built on quality, compassion and trust.”

Growth Across Scotland: Building Care Homes with Purpose

Under Cillian’s leadership, Meallmore has embarked on a new era of sustainable expansion, investing in purpose-built care homes that blend modern design, clinical excellence and community connection.

  • Kelvinside Manor Care Home, which opened in Glasgow in 2025, is a 48-bed care home offering residential care, dementia care and nursing care in the heart of Glasgow’s West End. With design features such as en-suite rooms, a salon, a café, and bright shared spaces, it was even shortlisted for Care Home Design of the Year.
  • Pitfodels Wood Care Home in Aberdeen, currently under construction and set to open in 2026, will be a 65-bed flagship home nestled in woodlands, delivering a premium care experience in a peaceful natural setting. The build is also creating over 80 local jobs.
  • Broughty Ferry, a new care home project in Dundee’s east coast suburb, began construction in late 2025. The 54-bed home, due to open in 2027, will blend seaside charm with Meallmore’s signature design-led living, providing high-end, personalised care facilities while regenerating a formerly disused site. Dundee is a key location for care homes in Scotland, and Meallmore’s presence there ensures tailored, high-quality care for residents in this prominent city.

Meallmore is also preparing to expand in Clarkston, East Renfrewshire, further strengthening its presence in the Greater Glasgow region. Offering palliative care, nursing care, dementia care and residential care services to new residents. Each development is more than just bricks and mortar - it’s an investment in community, jobs, and the well being of Scotland’s ageing population.

Putting People First: Meallmore’s Vision for Care

At the heart of Cillian’s approach is an unwavering focus on the people Meallmore supports—residents, families, and colleagues. His leadership style combines strategic clarity with deep respect for care professionals, always crediting Meallmore’s team for the company’s achievements. Our people, our Meallmore Colleagues, play a vital role in delivering personalised care and creating a welcoming environment for all in our care homes.

From dementia-friendly layouts and well being focused programming to recruitment strategies that bring in the best talent, the business is rooted in delivering excellent personalised care in great places to live and work. Meallmore works to foster teamwork and a supportive environment among colleagues, ensuring collaboration and a positive workplace culture. Cillian is also committed to building a more sustainable sector, from eco-conscious building practices to innovative food and activity programmes - all aimed at raising the bar for our care homes in Scotland.

Impact Beyond Meallmore

Cillian’s recognition on the HealthInvestor Power List is a moment for reflection across the wider Scottish care sector. It’s a reminder that Scotland is producing leaders who not only build great homes but also lead conversations about the future of health and social care.

It brings national attention to the vital work happening in local communities, from Glasgow to Inverness, Broughty Ferry to Newton Mearns, where residents, families and carers come together in environments designed with care at their core. On any given day, special events and celebrations mark memorable milestones, bringing joy and togetherness to our care home community.

As Meallmore continues to grow, its mission remains the same: to be Scotland’s most trusted care provider. Cillian’s place on the Power List is a signal that the company is well on its way - but also that our best chapters are yet to be written. Meallmore’s success is proof that when you put people first, invest in quality, and build with purpose, you don’t just deliver excellent care - you help lead a sector forward.

Introduction to Meallmore and Our Care Homes

We’re Meallmore, and for more than three decades, we’ve been trusted by families across Scotland to care for their loved ones in our care homes. Our team isn’t just dedicated; they’re real people who genuinely care, creating personalised experiences that honour each person’s life story and choices, always holding their well-being at the forefront of mind. Every one of our care homes feels like home because that’s exactly what we’re trying to create - comfortable, supportive care homes where people can truly be themselves and live with dignity.

Whether someone needs nursing care, dementia support, or palliative care, we begin by understanding who they are as an individual, then tailor everything to their unique needs and preferences. We’re proud that the Care Inspectorate recognises the quality of our care, but what matters most to us is that families feel safe placing their trust in our hands. Through respect, compassion, and genuine support, we’re working every day to be the kind of care provider Scotland’s families can rely on - not just for excellent care, but for that feeling of being truly at home.

Meallmore’s Care Homes in Scotland

Across our 27 homes throughout Scotland, we’re here to support families and individuals in the way that feels right for them. From Glasgow to Aberdeen to Inverness, our care homes offer a range of services, including residential care, nursing care, palliative care, specialist dementia support, and adult specialist care services. But more than that, they provide a place where people truly belong. We’ve thoughtfully designed every space to feel like home, with warm dining areas where stories are shared over meals, comfortable lounges where friendships flourish, and welcoming outdoor spaces where the Scottish seasons can be enjoyed together.

What matters most to us is getting to know each person who calls our care homes their home, understanding their life, their choices, and what makes them feel comfortable and valued. Through genuine connections and activities that bring joy, we create communities where residents don’t just receive care, they feel genuinely at home, surrounded by people who understand them and families who trust us with what matters most.

This commitment means that every aspect of care delivered within our care homes is tailored to the individual resident, respecting their preferences, history, and unique requirements. Our dedicated team supports with everything from assistance with daily living activities to specialised nursing and dementia care. Our care homes teams work tirelessly to create an environment where residents feel safe, valued, and empowered, meeting their care needs. We understand that personalised care is about more than just meeting physical needs; it encompasses emotional support, social engagement, and promoting overall well being. Our dedicated team are trained to foster meaningful relationships, encouraging residents to maintain their independence while providing the right level of support. This holistic approach ensures that each person’s quality of life is enhanced, making our care homes not just places to live, but true homes filled with compassion and respect.

Community Involvement Across Scotland

We’re genuinely passionate about being part of the communities across Scotland where our care homes sit; it’s at the heart of everything we do. You’ll find us joining in with local events, rolling up our sleeves for fundraising efforts, and volunteering alongside our neighbours, because we believe these connections make our communities stronger and more vibrant. When we work with local schools and community groups, something magical happens, you see a child’s face light up as they share stories with one of our residents, or watch as someone rediscovers a skill they thought they’d lost. That’s the kind of intergenerational magic that enriches everyone’s lives. Each of our care homes feels like it truly belongs in its neighbourhood, offering services and activities that not only support our residents and their families but also celebrate the unique character of each local area. We’re proud to be part of Scotland’s care community, and that pride shows in everything we do - care that feels personal, creating spaces where people genuinely feel at home, and building the kind of partnerships that last for generations.

Our Scottish care homes offer a supportive network where residents can enjoy a warm, welcoming environment that fosters well being and community connection. We understand the importance of providing a broad range of services to ensure that every individual feels comfortable, happy, and supported throughout their time with us. From daily living assistance to specialised medical care, our homes offer facilities and compassionate staff who work together to deliver exceptional care, making us a trusted choice for families seeking quality care home options. Through this commitment, we continue to strengthen our presence across Scotland, ensuring that local communities have access to the support and care they deserve.

Looking ahead, we remain deeply committed to creating care homes where every person feels truly cared for and valued across Scotland. We’re growing thoughtfully, with plans for new care homes and enhanced spaces that will better serve the people who matter most - the residents who trust us with their lives and the families who place their loved ones in our hands. Investing in our colleagues and finding new ways to care is at the heart of everything we do, ensuring that every person who calls our homes their home feels safe, respected, and genuinely cherished. Our goal isn’t just recognition - it’s to be the care provider that families across Scotland turn to because they know we’ll treat their loved ones as our own family. By building genuine partnerships with local communities and listening to the people we serve, we’re working to show that exceptional care isn’t just about meeting needs - it’s about helping people live with joy, dignity, and the warmth that comes from being truly at home.
